The Third Annual UGA Obesity Initiative Research Symposium

The Third Annual symposium was held at the UGA Special Collections Library on February 10, 2023. Student research competitions featuring both oral and poster presentations were held throughout the day in addition to this year’s keynote speakers: Andrea Richardson, PhD, MPH, a senior policy researcher at the RAND Corporation and a professor at the Pardee RAND Graduate School; Dr. Seth Creasy, Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Diabetes at the University of Colorado – Anschutz Medical Campus; Dr. Kathryn Ross is an Associate Professor in the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology at University of Florida; and Dr. Chad Paton, associate professor in Food Science and Technology and Nutritional Sciences at the University of Georgia.

The Second Annual symposium was held at the UGA Special Collections Library on February 18, 2022. Student research competitions featuring both oral and poster presentations  were held in the morning followed by lunch and several outstanding keynote speakers in the afternoon. Dr. Hollie Raynor, Associate Dean and Professor in the Department of Nutrition at University of Tennessee at Knoxville, Dr. Sushant Bhatnagar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and Joel Kimmons, PhD, senior nutrition scientist and epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity were the afternoon’s keynote speakers.

The First Annual UGA Obesity Initiative Research Symposium

This one-day inaugural Annual symposium was held at the UGA Special Collections Library on March 5, 2020. The event included student research competitions featured oral presentations in the morning session and poster presentations over the lunch break. Dr. Jeni Burnette Associate Professor of Psychology at North Carolina State University, Rita Hamad, MD, PhD, from the Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies and the Department of Family & Community Medicine at UCSF, Dr. Alyssa Hasty, Professor, Department of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics (MPB) at Vanderbilt, and Dr. Corby Martin, director of the Ingestive Behavior Laboratory at Pennington Biomedical were the four outstanding keynote speakers in the afternoon.
