“Diversity, collaboration and innovation: Humanities & arts research and practice at UGA”

Mark Callahan, artistic director, Ideas for Creative Exploration, Lamar Dodd School of Art
Humanities and arts research, teaching and practice extend across UGA and the communities it serves. The Willson Center is a focus and a hub for this established and emerging work, as well as a catalyst for new ideas and connections. With deep foundations in excellence, our humanities and arts activities are one of our gateways to international partnerships. This conversation will introduce some of UGA’s humanities and arts infrastructure, share recent innovations, introduce plans for the future, and invite a discussion of interdisciplinary opportunities for students, faculty and diverse publics.

“Research security: What it means for the UGA community”

Join Dan Runge and Marty Bink from the Office of Research for a presentation about the role of research security in the responsible conduct of research and all federal research funding. Specific topics will include U.S. government concerns regarding research security and UGA’s response; an intro to National Security Presidential Memorandum-33 and its “Research Security Program” requirements; information for investigators about international shipping and other compliance issues; and UGA’s efforts to position itself for additional research contracts from security-minded federal agencies.

Office of Research Fall 2022 Town Hall

 

October 24, 2022 from 3:30-4:30pm

Vice President for Research Karen Burg hosts a virtual town hall for the UGA research community. Together with members of her senior leadership team, Dr. Burg will discuss recent Office of Research accomplishments and new initiatives in support of UGA investigators. Remarks from Dr. Burg and her team will be followed by a Q&A session with attendees.

Join Vice President for Research Karen Burg and the Office of Research senior leadership team for this year’s Faculty Research Orientation. Offered to faculty and research professionals who are both brand-new to UGA and veterans of many years, the orientation will help you learn more about how the Office of Research can support your work. Presenters will share information about sponsored programs, internal grants, research commercialization, integrity and safety, human and animal subjects research, core facilities, research communications, and more. Presenter remarks will be followed by Q&A with attendees.

Improving community engagement and other goals of UGA’s human research program

UGA’s Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) has added capacity and is pursuing important improvement goals. This session will describe current and future activities aimed at improving community engagement in UGA research; providing support to graduate students and new faculty conducting human research; and improving efficiency and response time for human-subjects proposals and IRB submissions.
